Taste Nature has a long and interesting history as Dunedin’s organic store.
Started by Jim O’Gorman in 1992 as Silverpeaks Bay Products Ltd, it occupied several sites around town in the old church on Dundas St and in Moray Place.
It eventually settled at 59 Moray Place. A combined suppliers and consumers group was formed to help it get through some challenging times. John Gadd and Helen Davidson were instrumental in keeping Taste Nature operating and viable during this period.
Having been a small scale grower for Taste Nature, Mark & Rayna Dickson bought the business in 2003 and in 2009 moved to new premises in the old Bing Harris Building in lower High St. This enabled the expansion of the product range and development of new products produced in their kitchen.
In 2011, Mark & Rayna opened a small eatery adjacent to the Taste Nature kitchen so customers could enjoy food made fresh daily from the seasonal ingredients and produce instore.
Since then, the business has grown gradually through the support of loyal customers and the many producers and suppliers that regularly supply the store with primary produce and an ever-increasing range of artisan made organic products.
As they continue nurturing their business, Mark & Rayna are as passionate as ever about ensuring the ongoing availability and high quality of organic food in the Otago region.
They are committed to developing a business model to sustain Taste Nature for the future and in 2017 purchased a new EV van for their new home delivery service.
